The Celina Marie Alexandre Memorial Scholarship Fund is a bicoastal scholarship awarded annually, one to a Sanford (Maine) High School (SHS) senior and one to a Folsom Lake (California) College (FLC) student. Celina’s Scholarship Fund has been funded, and will continue to be funded, by donations from the family and friends of Celina, donations from the public, by holding fundraisers in Maine & California, and by the sale of a specially labeled wine for Celina’s Fund by Crystal Basin Cellars.

MISSION

The Celina Marie Alexandre Memorial Scholarship Fund exists to offer annual scholarships to a graduating Sanford High School senior and a graduate of Folsom Lake College who plan to continue their education in a college degree program.

The distribution of the SHS scholarship will be handled directly by the Board of Directors of the Celina Marie Alexandre Memorial Scholarship Fund located in Sanford, ME. The applicants will be narrowed down to 5 finalists by a scholarship committee made up of SHS faculty and staff, and the final decision will be decided by majority vote of the Board of Directors. After successful completion of the first semester, the SHS student’s scholarship will be sent directly to the college.

The distribution of the FLC scholarship will be handled by the Los Rios Foundation (LRF), a 501(c)(3) organization located in Sacramento, CA. The Celina Marie Alexandre Memorial Scholarship Fund has endowed the LRF for future years, and has funded the 2017 FLC scholarship. The LRF will be scoring applicants to determine the winning student. The funds go directly to the school the student matriculates to before the start of the school year. The FLC scholarship can go to a student earning a 2 or 4 year degree.

This scholarship was formed after Celina was lost to her family and friends in a tragic accident on April 30, 2016. Celina graduated from Sanford High School in 2008 and she had recently found her passion in both tutoring and working as an instructional assistant in the Science Department at Folsom Lake College. Celina took great pride in her work in both of these areas helping students move forward with their education as she pursued her own dream of a degree in the field of Science. She also maintained a GPA of 4.0 while providing this support. It is our mission to continue helping others in Celina’s name by providing funds to those students who may not otherwise be able to continue their education due to financial need.

The criteria for the Sanford High School Scholarship are:

Financial need;

Be enrolled in a 2 or 4-year degree program and maintain a C average through the 1st semester;
Provide a letter of recommendation from a teacher, administrator, or guidance counselor;
Complete a 500 word minimum essay answering: Where do you see yourself in 5 years; What impact will you have on others?;
Turn essay and letter of recommendation in to celinasscholarshipfund@gmail.com by 2 PM, April 25, 2025;
Recipient agrees to have their name and photo published on www.celinasscholarshipfund.org.

The criteria for the Folsom Lake College Scholarship are:

Minimum GPA of 3.0 as either a full time student or part time student if employed;
Qualify for the Board of Governor Fee Waiver;
Be majoring in either Chemistry, BioChemistry, or Anatomy and Physiology;

Submit a themed essay answering the questions: Where do you see yourself in five years?; What impact will you have on others?;
Apply through the Los Rios Foundation website.
Additional consideration will be given to applicants who:

Work in the Tutoring Center at FLC;

Volunteer in their community;

Work as a private tutor;

Work as an Instructional Assistant in the Science Department.
